TMR stands for tunnelling magnetoresistance. Like hall effect, a TMR stick reads its position magnetically, so there is no contact rubbing inside and the wear that causes drift is gone. The difference is how finely it reads. TMR sensors pick up finer movement than hall effect, so aiming and small adjustments feel smoother and more precise, and they draw less power, which is a little kinder to your battery.
