Why Is My PS5 So Loud? Causes & Fixes (Perth Guide)

If your PS5 sounds like a jet engine taking off every time you load a game, you are not alone. A loud PS5 fan is one of the most common issues we see in Perth — and the good news is it is almost always fixable.

Why does a PS5 get so loud?

The PS5 has a large fan and heatsink designed to keep the console cool under load. Over time, that cooling system gets clogged and has to work much harder, which is what you hear as that loud whirring or roaring noise.

The usual causes are:

• Dust and pet hair packed into the fan and heatsink fins
• Liquid metal between the chip and heatsink that has dried or moved, so heat is not transferred efficiently
• Poor ventilation — the console sitting in an enclosed TV cabinet or against a wall
• Demanding games pushing the hardware harder than usual

Is a loud PS5 actually a problem?

Some fan noise under load is normal. But a constantly loud PS5 usually means it is running hotter than it should. Left long enough, heat is the number one killer of console hardware — it can lead to crashes, the dreaded shutdowns, and shortened lifespan. If your PS5 is loud AND hot to the touch at the exhaust, or it randomly powers off, that is your cue to act.

What you can safely do at home

• Stand the console vertically or give it plenty of clear space for airflow
• Keep it out of enclosed cabinets — consoles need to breathe
• Gently dust the external vents (never jam anything inside)
• Make sure it is not sitting in direct sunlight or near a heat source
