Nintendo Switch Custom Shells in Perth: Joy-Con, Lite and Pro Controller
Nintendo · 27 July 2026 · 4 min read
Neon red and blue was fun when the Switch launched, but nearly a decade on, most consoles look exactly the same. A custom shell swap is the fix. We rebuild your Joy-Cons, Switch Lite or Pro Controller inside a brand new eXtremeRate housing, from soft pastels to clear shells and atomic purple, and your original electronics go straight back in, so everything works exactly as it did before. It just looks nothing like it did.
What can be swapped?
- Joy-Con pair swap, full front and back housings for both Joy-Cons with a matching button set
- Joy-Con button swap, custom colour buttons without a full shell change
- Switch Lite full shell swap, a complete teardown and rebuild with new buttons
- Pro Controller shell swap, new housing and buttons in the finish of your choice
- Switch console backplate swap, a custom back housing for the console itself in clear and themed finishes
The Joy-Con pair swap is the one most people come in for, and the finishes are the reason. Clear shells that show off the boards inside, pastel colour sets for a softer look, themed designs, and the retro favourite, atomic purple, the transparent tint that made the nineties Game Boy famous. Every shell we fit is a proper eXtremeRate housing, the same brand behind our DualSense custom range.
Which swap should you start with?
If you want the whole look changed, the pair swap rebuilds both Joy-Cons with a matching button set included. If you like your current shells and just want a splash of colour, the button swap is the quick, affordable way to personalise your Switch. The console backplate is the finishing touch, it brings the body of the Switch into the same scheme as the Joy-Cons, with options for both V1/V2 and OLED models. And the Switch Lite and Pro Controller each get the full treatment, a complete teardown and rebuild into new housing and buttons.
Why professional fitting beats DIY
Shell kits are easy to buy online and the listings make the job look like a lazy afternoon. Inside a Switch it is less friendly. There are ribbon cables that tear easily, and every button, spring and cable has to come out and go back in exactly right. A first attempt often ends in more damage, and the Switch Lite and console backplate jobs mean opening the console itself, which raises the stakes again.
We do these rebuilds as a routine job. Your controller or console is stripped down, rebuilt in the new housing, and every input is tested before handover, all backed by our 30 day warranty.
Drifting sticks? Sort them in the same visit
A shell swap has your Joy-Cons fully apart anyway, which makes it the perfect time to deal with stick drift. We replace worn stick modules as a standard repair, and if you want drift gone permanently, ask us about a hall effect upgrade, magnetic sticks that do not develop drift at all. Our hall effect thumbsticks guide explains why standard sticks wear out and what the upgrade changes.
How the made to order process works
Custom shells are ordered fresh for each job so you get the exact finish you picked, not old stock. You choose your design and a drop off time on the booking page and pay online, and we order your parts straight away. They usually take one to two weeks to arrive, you keep the drop off time you chose, and we message you as soon as everything lands so you know it is all on track.
