PS5 Won't Turn On? Causes & Fixes (Perth)

PlayStation · 7 June 2025 · 5 min read

A PS5 that will not turn on is alarming, but it is not always serious. Work through these steps before assuming the worst.

Quick checks to try first

  • Try a different power cable and a different wall outlet — power cables do fail
  • Hold the power button for 10 to 15 seconds to force a full restart
  • Listen for a single beep with no startup — that points to a power or board issue
  • Boot into Safe Mode (hold power until the second beep) and try Rebuild Database

If the console gives no light, no beep and no fan at all, the problem is usually power-related. If it beeps and powers off, or shows a blue or white light and dies, it is more likely an internal fault.

Common hardware causes

  • Failed power supply (PSU) — very common and very repairable
  • Mainboard fault, often after a power surge
  • Overheating from heavy dust buildup causing shutdowns
  • HDMI or storage faults stopping a clean boot

When to get it diagnosed

If the quick checks do not bring it back, it needs a proper diagnosis. Many no-power PS5s come down to a power supply that can be replaced for far less than a new console. We will diagnose the fault and tell you exactly what it needs before doing any work.
