PS5 Disc Drive Not Reading or Ejecting? Fixes (Perth)
PlayStation · 1 June 2025 · 4 min read
Disc drive problems are common on the disc edition PS5 — discs that will not read, discs that keep ejecting on their own, or a disc jammed inside. Here is what causes them and how they are fixed.
Common symptoms
- The console will not recognise any disc
- It repeatedly ejects the disc with a series of beeps
- Grinding or clunking noises when a disc goes in
- A disc stuck inside that will not come out
What causes it
The usual causes are a dirty or worn laser, a fault in the drive mechanism or its gears, or a loose internal connection. Sometimes a firmware glitch is to blame, which is why a couple of quick checks are worth doing first.
Quick checks to try
- Fully power the console down and restart it
- Make sure the system software is up to date
- Try a clean, undamaged disc to rule out the disc itself
When it needs a repair
If the checks do not help, the drive needs attention — a clean, a mechanism repair, or a drive replacement depending on the fault. We can also safely remove a stuck disc without damaging the console.
