PS5 Back Buttons: The RISE Remap Kit Explained (Perth)

Controllers · 27 July 2026 · 4 min read

Back buttons used to be the feature that separated pro controllers from the standard pad. They sit under your ring fingers, so you can jump, crouch or reload without your thumbs ever leaving the sticks. The good news is you do not need to replace your DualSense to get them. The eXtremeRate RISE remap kit adds programmable paddles to the PS5 controller you already own, fitted and tested here in Perth.

What the RISE kit actually adds

The kit installs into the back of the DualSense and adds either two paddles, the standard RISE, or four with the RISE4. Each paddle is programmable, and the remapping happens on the controller itself. There is no app, no PC and no software to install, you hold a button combination and assign what each paddle does, then change it whenever you like.

  • Two paddles (RISE) or four (RISE4), both fitted for the same price
  • Remap on the fly, on the controller, with no software needed
  • Your thumbs stay on the sticks while your ring fingers handle the extras
  • The rest of the controller stays completely standard

Who gets the most out of paddles

Shooter players are the obvious ones. If you have taught yourself claw grip, hooking your index finger over the face buttons so you can jump while aiming, paddles do the same job without the hand cramp. Mapping jump and crouch to the back means your aim never drops off the sticks in a fight.

Paddles also matter for accessibility. If reaching certain buttons is uncomfortable or simply not possible, moving those inputs to the back of the controller can be the difference between playing comfortably and not playing at all. We are happy to talk through a layout before we fit anything, just leave a note on your booking.

RISE kit vs buying a pro controller

Our RISE install has a single fitted price that covers the kit itself and the installation, whether you choose two paddles or four, and the current figure is on our booking page. Pro controllers with back buttons sell for a lot more than that, and you end up with a second controller to get used to rather than an upgrade to the one your hands already know. The RISE route keeps your own DualSense, with its original sticks, triggers and haptics, and simply adds the paddles.

Playing on PS4? The Dawn kit

The same idea exists for the older controller. The eXtremeRate Dawn remap kit adds programmable back buttons to the PS4 DualShock 4, again remapped on the controller itself with no software. DualShock 4 boards come in two versions, V1 and V2, and the right kit depends on which one you have. We confirm that with you at booking, and there is a Not sure option if you have no idea.

How the made to order booking works

Remap kits are made to order, so the kit is bought fresh for your job rather than pulled from old stock. You pick the service on our booking page, choose a drop off time, and pay online. We order your kit as soon as you pay, and it usually takes one to two weeks to arrive. You keep your booked drop off time and bring the controller in as normal, just be aware the install may wait on the parts if they have not landed yet. Every paddle and every original input is tested before handover, and the work is covered by our 30 day warranty.

The honest downsides

  • The paddles add some weight and bulk to the back of the controller, most players adjust quickly but it does feel different in hand
  • The kit is ordered when you book, so expect a one to two week wait for parts before the install happens
  • Change of mind refunds are not available once your kit is on order
  • The right kit depends on the board revision inside your DualSense, we confirm this at booking and a Not sure answer is fine

If back buttons sound like your kind of upgrade, check our booking page for the remap kits. If the one you are after is not listed yet, message us, the mod range is still growing and we can order the kit for your job.
